When I began teaching 10 years ago, I never imagined that I would have under my belt, Grade 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 8 including French Immersion, in my first year alone! Out of necessity, I began to develop short cuts and organizational strategies, for my own survival, and the ability to ask for help from any colleague and/or teaching partner that was willing to share with me.Having taught 1-8, I've been able to see what students are developmentally capable of, from learning their sounds and letters, to solving equations using algebra and how the power of conversation with their peers and teachers takes learning to a level previously unimaginable.
I have developed into a flexible teacher, who thrives on change. I've never had the same assignment and/or classroom two years in a row, and I love it! What an amazing profession, that every day is different, and no matter how much I plan and prepare, there are 20+ bodies that greet me every day and will sometimes set me on a much different path!
This blog is my way to keep track of what has worked well for me and the roomful of students that were in front of me at the time. I also want to reflect and educate colleagues, administrators and parents on the different approaches and strategies that I've found successful. I don't have all the answers yet, but I will try my best to find them. I'm recently enrolled in an AQ course at Brock with the simple goal of bettering my practice, something I haven't been able to "officially" do since I took my last AQ course when I was expecting my first daughter seven years ago. I'm currently enrolled for my Master of Education. I love learning new things, that's why I went into the business of education!
